I believe in the power of women to give birth and bring life into the world – with an inner strength and ability. I possessed a well-developed and innate ability to empathize and have compassion for pregnant and laboring women. It is my belief as a woman and a doula that within each woman lays a silent warrior. These warriors, inside each and every woman, possess gifts of: unconditional love, courage, resiliency, strength, patience, nurture and wisdom. In order for this warrior and her gifts to rise to the surface, she must be encircled with the infusion of love, compassion, encouragement and nurture. She must be given a secure, comfortable and non-judgmental space to which she can nurture her body and emotions, through the process of birthing or adoption. My name is Kachina Akua Randall; I am a mother and wife, and serve as a certifying DTI birth and postpartum doula, part time non-profit worker with an NGO called “Voices of African Mothers”, mentor and counselor. I serve the boroughs of NYC as well as upper and lower Westchester. The tools and promise I make to each and every client, with each and every new and growing family, before and after the birth or adoption is: Love, encouragement, companionship, and dedication. I wish you all a beautiful life and would be honored to be a part of your journey.

I wrote my undergraduate thesis on women’s experiences with religion, spirituality and birth and completed a self-designed reproductive justice internship for college credit. With an understanding of the way politics, pregnancy, and identity intersect to shape experience, I strive to provide doula services that are empowering, accessible, and inclusive of all bodies and family structures. My services include 1-2 prenatal visits (depending on your needs and preferences), ongoing email, phone, and informational support, continuous support during your labor and birth (including being on call for you +/-2 weeks of your due date), 1-2 postpartum visits (again, depending on your needs and preferences), basic breastfeeding support, and referrals upon request or if necessary. Fees are sliding scale and negotiable. More information can be found at www.adinamarxarpadi.com.(Posted 2.14.14)

I am a *low-cost* postpartum doula and baby nurse! Hi, I’m Sarah. I love supporting mothers and their newborns, and I’m looking for work as a low-cost postpartum doula and/or baby nurse this fall. I am a full-time teacher (middle school English, history, and health), so my availability is primarily on evenings and weekends. I completed a DONA doula training in July 2013, and I volunteered as a postpartum doula/baby nurse for a couple of Brooklyn mothers/newborns in August 2013. In addition, before I began my teaching career 10 years ago, I nannied for a baby and supported women by volunteering/working at domestic violence and sexual assault agencies. I strive to bring compassion, patience, and empowerment to my doula work. Please contact me at email@example.com or 617-281-2068 if you're interested in discussing details/references. Also, I live in the Upper West Side and teach in Downtown Brooklyn, so I’m hoping to support families who live in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Thanks!

Hi. I am interested in volunteering as a postpartum doula this summer. I am a teacher (middle school English, history, and health) with free time this summer, and I'd love to support women and their newborns. I went through a DONA doula training in July 2013, and I nannied for a baby (2 weeks to 8 months) in 2002-2003. Before I began my teaching career 10 years ago, I supported women when I volunteered and worked at domestic violence and sexual assault agencies. I hope to bring compassion, patience, and empowerment to my volunteer work this summer. I plan to offer my services free of charge, and I would be willing to volunteer in any borough.

Birth doula/prenatal/postpartum home visit services. I am a registered nurse and am working toward my certification as a birth doula. I expect to attend my first birth as a doula this month (June 2013). I am required to attend two additional births to complete my certification. Until I become a certified birth doula, my fee will just be to cover my childcare costs (if any) and transportation. Once I become a certified birth doula, my fee will be commensurate with my experience (sliding scale). I am a resident of Manhattan so prefer to attend births in Manhattan homes/hospitals/birthing centers, but am open to attending births in Brooklyn and the Bronx as well. I look forward to speaking with you (and your partner if applicable) about the role I can perform as your doula to provide you emotional and physical support and educational resources during your pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum, and how I will also do my part to help ensure these life altering experiences are both incredibly positive and personally empowering.
